General Info About Steel Plate

A steel plate is a flat sheet of steel that is typically rectangular in shape. It is one of the most common forms of steel used in various industries due to its versatility, strength, and durability. Steel plates are manufactured through a process called hot rolling or cold rolling, depending on the desired properties of the final product.

Hot rolling involves heating the steel billets or slabs to high temperatures and then passing them through a series of rollers to shape them into thin sheets. Cold rolling, on the other hand, involves rolling the steel at room temperature, resulting in a smoother and more precise surface finish.

Steel plates come in various thicknesses, ranging from a few millimeters to several inches, and they can be used for a wide range of applications. Some common uses of steel plates include construction, manufacturing, automotive, shipbuilding, energy, oil & gas, defense, and more.

The specific type and grade of steel used for a plate depend on the intended application and the required mechanical properties, such as tensile strength, toughness, and corrosion resistance. Steel plates can be made from carbon steel, alloy steel, stainless steel, or other specialized grades to meet specific industry requirements.

More Details About Each Steel Plate Grade

  • A36
