General Info About API 2H Grade 50

  • Advantages/Disadvantages

    This grade offers intermediate strength. It has high impact toughness and high resistant to fatigue loading. It is also tough classed as a marine & offshore steel plate grade and can be used in different of applications because of its stringent specifications.

  • Industries

    It is often used in the construction industry as well as the marine and shipbuilding industry.

  • Applications

    It is typically used in applications where good impact and fatigue strength is required. Examples are tubular joints, stiffened plate construction, and bridge construction.

  • Welding

    For the industries and applications it serves, weldability is critical, since it is typically used in welded construction for offshore structures.

  • Heat Treatment

    It is heat treatable.

    ANSWER:

    API stands for the American Petroleum Institute. It is certified by API and can in some instances be dual certified by ABS.

  • What are equivalent grades to API 2H Grade 50?

    ANSWER:

    Equivalent grades to this grade are EN10225:S355, EN10225:S420, EN10225:S460, API 2H, and API 2W.

  • What supplements are available for API 2H Grade 50?

    ANSWER:

    There are multiple supplements following available for this grade including, S1 (Ultrasonic Examination per A578 Level C), S3  (Individual Plate Testing for Mechanical Properties), S4 (Though-Thickness Testing), S5 (Low Sulfur for improved Through-Thickness Properties), and S8 (Strain-Aged Charpy V-Notch Impact Testing).
