Slitter – 84″

Kloeckner is proud to introduce the Slitter 84, a high-capacity steel slitter machine now operating at our Greenville, SC facility. Slitter 84 represents a major advancement in our processing capabilities, featuring cutting-edge GFG/Peabody Electrostatic Oiling Technology.

The Slitter 84 enables precision slitting of materials ranging from .010″ to 1/4″ thickness, including carbon steel, aluminum, stainless steel, and prepainted steel. With the capacity to handle coils weighing up to 80,000 pounds, this system allows us to accommodate larger coil sizes, significantly improving processing efficiency.

The advanced electrostatic oiler integrated with Slitter 84 supports the application of both wet and dry lubricants. This ensures consistent, high-quality coating on the top, bottom, or both sides of steel and aluminum coils, offering our customers enhanced coating accuracy.

By investing in Slitter 84, Kloeckner reaffirms its commitment to innovation, customer satisfaction, and meeting the evolving demands of the metals industry.

Electrostatic Oiling Capabilities

Uniform Coating: Applies wet and dry lubricants evenly across the strip

Top / Bottom / Both Sides coating options

Film Weight: 150–700 mg/m² per side

Accuracy: ±10% from 60 to 1000 FPM

Materials:

Anti-rust oils: Fuchs Anticorit PL 39 SX, Parker 61-AUS

Dry films: Zeller Multi-draw E1, Quaker Dry Coat 2-90

Why it matter?

Electrostatic oiling on our steel slitter machine ensures a consistent and accurate coating across the entire coil surface, improving product quality and reducing rework. The process virtually eliminates overspray, helping to maintain a cleaner, safer environment. Uniform lubricant application enhances corrosion resistance and supports better formability in downstream operations. With coating accuracy held within ±10%, customers can count on reliable, repeatable results. Kloeckner is committed to delivering high-performance solutions that meet evolving customer and industry needs.

Frequently Asked Questions

  • What is an 84" slitter?

    Answer:

An 84″ slitter is a type of metalworking machine used to cut large sheets of metal into narrower strips or coils that are 84 inches (7 feet) wide. It is a specific type of slitting machine that is designed to handle large sheet metal rolls or coils.

The machine consists of a series of circular blades, called slitter knives or slitter blades, that are mounted on a shaft. The metal sheet or coil is fed into the slitter, and the blades make precise cuts along the length of the metal to create narrower strips or coils.

An 84″ slitter is a large machine that is commonly used in the manufacturing industry to produce precision metal parts and components for various applications. It can handle a wide range of metals, including steel, aluminum, copper, brass, and stainless steel, and is capable of cutting metal into strips of various widths and thicknesses.

The size and cutting capacity of a slitting machine will depend on the specific requirements of the manufacturing process. An 84″ slitter is considered a large machine and is typically used in heavy-duty metalworking applications, such as in the construction, automotive, and aerospace industries. It is capable of producing large volumes of metal strips quickly and efficiently, making it an ideal choice for high-volume production runs.

  • What industries require the use of an 84" slitter?

    Answer:

Industries that require the use of large-scale metal slitting machines, such as an 84″ slitter, include:

    1. Construction: The construction industry relies on metal slitting machines to produce custom metal components for various applications, including roofing, cladding, and structural elements.
    2. Automotive: The automotive industry uses metal slitting machines to produce custom metal parts and components, such as body panels, frames, and chassis components.
    3. Aerospace: The aerospace industry relies on metal slitting machines to produce custom metal parts and components for aircraft, including fuselages, wings, and engine components.
    4. Manufacturing: Manufacturers in a variety of industries use metal slitting machines to produce custom metal parts and components for various applications, from consumer goods to heavy machinery.
    5. Energy: The energy industry relies on metal slitting machines to produce custom metal parts and components for use in power generation, including turbine blades, generator components, and transmission systems.

Overall, any industry that requires the use of custom metal parts and components can benefit from the use of a metal slitting machine, such as an 84″ slitter. These machines offer precision and efficiency, making them an essential tool in many different industries.

  • What are the benefits of adding an electrostatic oiler to an 84-inch slitter for automotive applications?

    Answer:

Adding an electrostatic oiler to an 84-inch slitter used for automotive steel processing enhances surface quality and corrosion protection. The uniform oil application reduces dry spots and prevents metal-to-metal contact, helping maintain clean, protected surfaces. This is especially important for downstream forming and stamping processes. In some cases, it may also support compliance with relevant ASTM standards for corrosion resistance and surface treatments.
