Branch Spotlight: Tucson, AZ

09.27.2022

The desert is full of unique sights, happenings, and history! Gem and mineral enthusiasts flock to Tucson, Arizona, for its annual Gem Show against a gorgeous mountain backdrop, with a distinctive culinary culture sure to satisfy your Mexican food cravings. It’s also home to our customer care-focused Tucson metal supplier, where you’ll find the 73,400 sq. ft. facility sitting on an 8.8-acre plot, nestled alongside the Port of Tucson, with service to two rail lines and two truck loading decks.

One key aspect of our growth can be attributed to having a branch in Southern Arizona, giving us a logistical advantage over our competitors who are shipping from the Midwest or west coast. Garrett Gladd, Territory Manager, offered a bit of texture regarding this strategic placement, “it allows us the opportunity to service the four corners region, which is one of the largest geographical regions for our company in flat rolled steel and aluminum products. Gladd added, “our reach extends from the northwestern border of Mexico and as far north as Salt Lake City and Denver.”

Safety

Tucson recently celebrated 10 years without an LTA and four years injury-free, making it one of our safest branches. Since we rolled out our Top Dog safety program at the beginning of 2022, this branch has consistently hit KPIs we’re working to see across the board. As a west coast branch, they’re helping lead the pack in process developments that eliminate waste, making it a safer environment to work in and supporting our ambitious sustainability goals.

Performance

Kloeckner Tucson is an ISO 9001 registered quality management system that has been awarded the Outstanding Service Award for consistently going above and beyond the needs of our customers. This service center constantly improves the customer experience by increasing yields and reducing costs.

Nathaniel Sheeren, an Account Manager who oversees day-to-day customer needs at the facility, praised the overall can-do attitude displayed by the warehouse staff, “Tucson has a resilient team full of dedicated employees who really show up, and they’re the primary reason we’ve been able to grow so quickly over the past few years, even throughout the COVID pandemic.”

Sheeren reiterated that it’s genuinely their “do whatever it takes approach to the work that helps us create great relationships with our customers and keeps them coming back.”

Capabilities

Unmatched quality and production are paramount to customer satisfaction, but competitive pricing is an element you can’t ignore. Sheeren said, “we’re one of the only service centers in the area that offers in-house Slitting, Blanking, and Cut-to-length services. Not to mention the value-add services and projects that save time and cut costs in a way that other regional shops can’t compete with.”

Gladd echoed this thought by noting, “our turn-key sheet metal fabrication solutions allow us to streamline the metal supply chain, and ultimately, it brings substantial cost savings to our customers.”

Kloeckner Tucson is heavily focused on contractual service agreements while attending to the local transactional markets with a mix of stocked inventory. Specifically, Tucson readily supplies OEMs in HVAC, automotive, construction, door lifting equipment, elevator structures, and escalator industries. Customers of this branch also benefit from Just-In-Time inventory programs and free access to our digital contract management portal, Part Manager, where they can forecast and order in a few clicks.

Help us give the highly skilled crew in Tucson a big round of applause for all they do to stay safe in the “dry heat” and take care of customers. With 40+ branches across the Americas, stay tuned for next month’s branch spotlight to learn more about the rest of our operations.
