The Anatomy Of A Metal Roof

• Ridge Rolls And Ridge Caps – These pieces cover the joint between two rising faces of the roof. You will find them on top of the ridge, and on top of any hips or dormers.
• Gable Trim (Rake) – The rake covers the end of a sloping edge, like a gable or dormer.
• Gutter – Gutters are installed at the lowest edge of the roof, to prevent water from running down the fascia, and to direct rainwater away from the foundation or into a catchment system.
• Downspout – Downspouts are used to remove water from the gutters in a desired place or direction.
• Eave Trim – Eave trim is placed on the lower edge of the roof, to give a finished look.
• Roof to Wall – This trim covers the joint between a roof surface and a vertical surface like a wall or chimney, to keep water from seeping in.
• Valley Flashing – Valley flashing is installed beneath the roof material, in any place where two roof surfaces meet and form a valley. The flashing keeps water from penetrating the protective surface.
• Transition Trim – In places where the roof slope changes, like where a porch overhang meets the roof, transition trim protects the joint between the two roof surfaces.
