General Info About T303

T303 stainless steel bar is one of the easiest stainless steels to machine. It is a sulfur bearing austenitic steel with nickel and chromium. It is almost exclusively used for machined parts including automatic screw machines.

More Details About T303

  • Advantages/Disadvantages

This stainless steel bar, like all austenitic steels, cannot be hardened by heat treatment and is not magnetic. The main disadvantage of this grade is that it is not recommended for welding.

  • Industries

This grade shows up in heavily machined parts across a range of industries, including in aircraft.

  • Applications

Applications that require machining are best for this stainless steel grade. T-303 can be found in automatic screw machines and purposed for bushings, shafts, valves, bolts, nuts, and other machined fittings.

  • Machining

    It has excellent machinability.

  • Welding

It is not recommended for welding.

  • Heat Treatment

    It is not heat treatable.

Frequently Asked Questions

  • What makes this grade easy to machine?

This stainless steel grade is easy to machine due to its sulfur content.

  • Is t-303 corrosion resistant?

Like other stainless steel grades, T-303 is corrosion resistant. However, it is considered slightly less so than other stainless steels. This is mostly due to the relatively higher amount of sulfur content, which is also what makes it so easy to machine.

  • Can T-303 be cold work hardened?

Yes. This stainless steel grade can be cold work hardened to improve tensile strength and hardness.
