Kelly Jones of Kloeckner Metals elected as AWMI 2018 Member of the Year

06.11.2019

[NEW YORK, May 24, 2019] – The Association of Women in the Metal Industries (AWMI) is pleased to announce Kelly Jones as 2018 Member of the Year.

Jones has been a member of AWMI for 12 years. In that time, she has held the Detroit Chapter positions of fundraising chair, membership chair, treasurer, vice president and president, and is currently past president. She joined AWMI’s international board as international program chair in 2017, making this her third year in the role.

Jones has more than 17 years of experience in metal industries. She is employed at Kloeckner Metals Corp., where she has worked for four years. She is currently their manager of automotive business development, and before that, was a territory manager covering Michigan, with a few accounts in surrounding states.

“Kloeckner is an amazing company to work for,” Jones said. “They not only support AWMI as a corporate member but, more importantly, they care about their employees and look out for their best interest. My involvement in AWMI would be not possible without their support, so for that I am thankful.”

Jones started her career at Delphi, where she bought stampings for their chassis division, before leaving in 2005 to work for Mitsui Steel, where she gained international trading and supply chain management experience. After Mitsui purchased Steel Technologies in 2007, she transferred to the new business unit in 2008 and worked as an account manager overseeing automotive accounts for seven years.

“It’s an incredible honor to be nominated for this award,” Jones said. “AWMI is my family. The women I have met and connected with through AWMI provide a support system unlike any other organization I’ve been involved with. These women have helped to shape me into the person I am today. You are who you surround yourself with, and with AWMI I surround myself with intelligent, resilient and passionate women.”

Jones will receive her award at AWMI’s Annual Conference at the Grand Hyatt San Antonio Hotel in San Antonio, Texas, from November 7-9, 2019. For more information, please visit www.awmi.org.
