Millennial Spotlight – Alexandria Evans

03.03.2020

Alexandria Evans is working as an accountant here at Kloeckner Metals. She’s been with the company for four years and will arrive at her five-year mark in April. “I started Kloeckner as a Staff Accountant in 2015 and got promoted to Senior Accountant in 2017.” She explains.

It was her love for numbers that drove her into studying accounting in college, and she graduated with a degree in Accounting in 2013 with Auburn University and is currently pursuing her masters. After graduating, she started her professional career working in a law firm for one and a half years.

There are many aspects of working for Kloeckner that surprised Alexandria but one in particular, “One thing that surprises me about Kloeckner is that although we are in a traditional field/market, Kloeckner is always open to change and innovative thinking.” She says. Alexandria is also excited about the digital transformation taking place at Kloeckner.

Accountants may often be stereotyped as boring or introverted employees who sit behind their desks all day crunching away at numbers. However, these stereotypes do not reflect the reality of what it’s like to be in this position.  And according to Alexandria, the stereotypes couldn’t be further from the truth “I think people have a misconception that Accountants are boring and introverts and it’s quite the opposite. I am an extrovert, and I love talking to people. Also, everyone on our team is very outgoing, and we communicate well with many other departments.”

There are other stereotypes Alexandria and others in her age group might face. It’s true, every generation tends to look at the generation that follows them with a critical eye. Some might say millennials face certain criticism in the corporate world. Alexandria believes that millennials have a lot to offer the world. “Millennials tend to care about what they do and how they spend their time doing it. I think we also bring about innovative thinking and efficiency through technology.” She explains. And she is also proud to say that most of her colleagues in her department are millennials as well.

Alexandria is continuing to learn and push her innovative millennial mindset further. She is currently pursuing a Master’s Degree and is being assisted to do so by Kloeckner with a tuition disbursement plan. “Kloeckner is currently assisting me with my Master’s through the tuition reimbursement plan. Obtaining my Master’s degree will allow me to gain a more profound knowledge of accounting. It will also allow me to be able to sit for the CPA exam and increase my value in the company,” he adds.

With so much on Alexandria’s plate, one might wonder how she stays on her game. For those moments that you’re feeling overworked or overwhelmed, sometimes all you need is a little push or sensible tip to help you get you through it all. What is Alexandria’s trick in staying productive and pushing her go-getter mentality? She says making a to-do list containing all the tasks that need to be accomplished throughout the day is a must! “I make a list of all the tasks that I need to complete and mark them off as they are done. I feel accomplished every time I mark something off of my list. Another productivity trick I do is putting everything down on my calendar. That way I keep track of how much time I have to complete something, or when something is due so that I don’t wait until the last minute to complete it.”

When not working or studying, Alexandria makes sure to schedules quality time with those she cares about. “In my spare time, I love spending time with my family, friends, and my puppy daughter Foxy! I also love watching sports and finding new shows to watch on Netflix or HULU!”

Kloeckner is proud to have such a driven and dedicated employee with the company. And where does Alexandria see herself in the future with Kloeckner Metals? “Being a CPA and also eventually becoming a CFO of a company!”
