My name is Jonathan Whitehead and I drive for Kloeckner Metals. I’ve been driving for Kloeckner Metals for 12 years now.

The thing I like about driving is meeting new customers, meeting new people. Always going to a different town, seeing different scenery. Seeing different things being built with our steel.

Driving for Kloeckner, most of the time, is really laid-back. It’s not an early morning to a late at night thing most of the time. The benefits are great. Competitive pay. Great insurance.

You just don’t hear of companies today with the benefits that Kloeckner provides for us at very reasonable rates.

Management, they’re great, couldn’t ask for any better.

They want the job done, but they also want you to be able to do what you can with your family. There’s only been just a few times in 12 years that I’ve needed to be off for something that I haven’t been able to be off.

This job, it’s better than most truck driving jobs. We’re only gone probably two or three nights a week, maybe four, sure not gone weeks at a time, so I’ve only worked, I guess, probably three weekends all the way through in 12 years, and that’s kind of unheard of in this line of work.

They make it worth your while. It’s not like you’re gone all the time and never get to come home and see your family. They keep us in nice equipment. They take care of all the maintenance. It’s not like you’re driving a truck that you wonder if you’re going to make it home in.

Safety and fleet maintenance is definitely a big concern with the company, for our safety, as well as the other people on the road’s safety. We all run electronic logs. Of course, it monitors for your safety, I mean, with the push of a button it sends an alert if you get in a bad situation they’re going to know where you are. They’re going to know what’s going on around you.

I definitely plan on retiring from Kloeckner. It’s the best job around here. Provides for my family. The drivers at our branch, they retire, they don’t quit. This job is a job every truck driver would want.
