Get to Know our Employees: Rachel Lexow

09.24.2019

In the workplace, people are often divided based on departmental obligations, office location, and, of course, seniority. You might have a question and not know who may hold the answer in a company this size. The first step in forming healthy work relationships is simply to get to know our employees better. A quick hello when passing in the hallway won’t do. So, let’s get to know Rachel Lexow, learn how she helps Kloeckners Metals and could possibly help you:

What do you do at Kloeckner and in what circumstances would I come to you for something?

I am a Receptionist at our Shreveport branch, part of kloecknercares, and Safestart. Someone would come to me for questions or concerns regarding invoices, safety concerns, and/or charity ideas.

How long have you been with the company?

2.5 Years – I started May 2017

What does women of steel mean to you?

I believe men and women are equal. Anyone regardless of their gender should be allowed to achieve their goals in life.

What led you to this career?

I had been in a career field working with animals for about 10 years, I had climbed the ladder as high as I possibly could there, and when a friend told me about the position I am in now at Kloeckner Metals, I saw it as a new challenge and that idea excited me.

What’s one thing that surprised you about working at Kloeckner?

There are so many things that surprised me, but the main thing was even though it is a large corporate company, it still has the “family feel” to it. I have formed great friendships with people from other branches. And the Kloeckner Relief Fund, wow, it truly shows that Kloeckner has your back when you need it.

For those who don’t know, Kloeckner Relief Fund was created especially to provide financial assistance to employees in times of hardship. I encourage everyone to participate. Kloeckner is not just a business – It’s family!

What do you love about working for Kloeckner Metals?

Hands down, the KloecknerCares program for me. I have always wanted to volunteer in the community and help out where I can, but in reality it doesn’t pay the bills. Working for a company that allows me to do both is such a feeling of accomplishment.

The KloecknerCares program enables the company to give back to those communities where their employees live and work. The program also serve as a way for employees to get involved in local organizations, and help those in need through donations and volunteering. If you have not gotten involved and would like to, feel free to contact me for more information!

What are some changes you’d like to see in the industry?

I am not sure, I have to trust the direction Kloeckner is headed – I trust the executive and management team, and I know they will lead us to success.

What’s your go-to productivity trick?

Music…It calms my soul.

What’s one thing you’re currently trying to make a habit?

I am a very organized person, so the only thing I can really say is I need to learn how to take everything one day at a time…I mean, I can’t save the world in one day.

What’s the biggest misconception people have about your position?

LOL that’s easy-That the only thing I do is answer the phone! Much more to my role, a lot goes on behind the curtains.
