Careers at Kloeckner: Truck Drivers

P1010487-1.jpgIt isn’t enough to just sell quality products; you have to deliver them promptly and safely. For this reason, Kloeckner Metals Corporation is always looking for great truck drivers to add to the team. The national fleet is actually composed of several regional fleets, augmented by common carriers. These fleets work together to create a logistics network that spans the country and beyond.

The York, Pennsylvania fleet operates on basic 5 axle tractor and trailers. The gross weight can be up to 80,000 lbs. combined. Empty, the trucks weigh 27,960 lbs. making it a very light fleet with all day cab tractors and aluminum trailers. Several of the day drivers from the York fleet shared their experience working with Kloeckner.

“The atmosphere is really good,” driver Jason Banks says. “Coworkers work together to help each other.”

Safety and efficiency are some of the important skills needed for a truck driver at Kloeckner. You need to be a safe driver, and you also must know how to secure the material so it doesn’t get damaged. It is also important to be courteous to the customers.

As is usually the case with driving, sometimes the weather can be a factor. Traffic and the chaos of other drivers are also an ongoing challenge. You really have to be a defensive driver. Sometimes it can be a challenge getting in every stop on a tight route during the day. That is where teamwork and coordination come into play.

“Any challenge is met with information and support from management and coworkers,” driver Jay Mundis says.

The job is challenging but rewarding. Starting with a full trailer in the morning and making all your deliveries and pickups by the end of the day gives you a real feeling of accomplishment when you get back to the yard.

“It’s a good job and you drive nice equipment that is well maintained,” driver Paul Collins says.

Kloeckner offers good benefits and a professional atmosphere for those looking to join the team of drivers. As a strong company with an international presence, Kloeckner gives drivers the opportunity to work for the same company for the long haul. Safety and other protocols are followed, and equipment is kept up to date.

If you are interested in a driver career with Kloeckner, “be prepared to work hard and efficient, with safety in mind at all times,” driver Jason Banks says.

“Go for it,” driver Raymond Methrell says.
